Waitlist Info

Waiting List Students --

* I must add in the order of the waiting list. I do not give permission numbers to add the class until just before the course begins and/or after I drop no-shows.

If you are on the waiting list and want to add the class:

Wait until the week before the course begins - many times students drop or get "auto-dropped" for not paying fees, etc. the week before the course begins. If you are in the top 5 of the waiting list, you may just get bumped up to the enrolled list right before the course begins.

If you are on the waiting list the week before the course starts....

In Class Sections:

If it is an "in class" section, be there the first day and arrive a few minutes early.  Check in with me and let me know you are on the waitlist.  I usually wait about a half hour to count no-shows, if there is room, I start adding in order of the waitlist.  Many people have schedule changes and do not show up the first day so your best chance of getting in the course is just to show up first day.

Online Sections:

Check your student email account (or any other email account you have associated with Los Rios and/or Canvas) to see if I have given you instructions to add the class. Many times I will give the top 10 students on the waitlist the opportunity to add before I have processed the "drops." This does not mean that you have been added to the course yet -- you still need to contact me by email to get a permission number.

If you are on the waitlist and did not get instructions to take the orientation quiz it is because (a) maybe instructions sent to wrong email account or (b) I cannot add you to begin with but there is still hope if there are lots of "no shows".....

I will start to add once I drop all students that do not take the orientation quiz. I will add in order of the waiting list -- ONLY the students that make contact by email letting me know they are still interested in adding the class. (Do this the week before the course starts - many time students email me weeks and weeks in advance and with the hundreds of emails that I get daily....it just gets lost in the shuffle)

Students trying to add the class that are not on the waitlist --

I don't offer a lot of hope but occasionally I get a couple of spots open during the first week of class that are unexpected and can let a few more in.

Email me hayesr@arc.losrios.edu the week before the course starts. In the subject line place the course name and number and the words

Not on waitlist but still want to add (ex: CISW 350 Not on waitlist but still want to add class)

In the message of the email please include your full name, the course name and number and your student ID number.

Before the course starts I usually will say something like:
I cannot add you at this time but check again with me when the course starts next week.

Email again the first week of the course:
I will answer with one of these -

  • I cannot add anymore students

  • Let you know where I am at and your chances of adding by the end of the week

  • I can add you!

I will start to add once I drop all students that do not take the orientation quiz. I will add in order of the waiting list -- ONLY the students that make contact by email letting me know they are still interested in adding the class. (Do this the week before the course starts - many time students email me weeks and weeks in advance and with the hundreds of emails that I get daily....it just gets lost in the shuffle)......THEN I will add in order of the non-waiting list students that contact me and the date of contact.
